Wing Shun

It may be spelled Wing Shun, Wing Chun (english transcription), Wing Tsun or even Ving Tsun (as written by Grand Master Yip Man), it is always the translation of the same two chinese ideograms, and the same martial art. The variants are mainly used to distinguish the different teaching systems.
In the absolute, no martial art is superior to another. One chooses the discipline that fits him the most.

Origins

There is more than four hundred styles of Kung Fu, developped through History of China by masters always searching the techniques which could insure victory against the physical or armed superiority of an adversary. If the legend tells that Wing Shun was created by the nun Ng Mui, one of the five legedenry masters living in the Shaolin Monestary, it is more than likely that this art is born of the union of knowledge of talented monks, who where then the leaders of the revolt against the Mandchu invaders.
During centuries the Wing Shun has been improved, or completed by techniques with weapons like the six and a half feet pole. But it was still a secretive martial art, taught by few masters to a handfull of students. In the twentieth century, a master initiated the change: Yip Man. He was the first to open his school to public, and not anymore only to an elite, and so had a multitude of students until the last years of his life, during which himself never stops training. Today, almost all the ways of Wing Shun taught in the world are issued from Grand Master Yip Man.

Principles

The Wing Shun is not a fighting sport. The object is not to win medals and follow rules, but to get rid of any agressor, by all the means at your disposal. Concepts and traditional exercices allow you to acquire a self-defence system pragmatic, complete and efficient.
It is impossible to know the martial abilities, the weapons or the degree of violence an agressor is ready to employ. So it is necessary to react with quickness and adaptability. These lightning reactions are taught by Wing Shun, whatever your sex, your physical abilities or your age. Wing Shun is open to everybody. Training and practice wil develop the array of your techniques and the power of your blows..
